Casino Hotels

Four casino hotels, described as hotels first: where they stand, what the rooms look onto, and what else is on the property besides the gaming floor.

About this category

These are hotels with gaming floors, and they are written up here as hotels: the site, the building, the views, the restaurants and theatres, and the gaming floor as one amenity among several.

All four are in Canada, and each one occupies a site that would be notable without the casino — an Expo island, an escarpment above a waterfall, a river marina and a stretch of Ontario cottage country.

Montreal Casino & Hotel

Montréal, Québec, Canada

The property sits on Île Notre-Dame, on the site of the French and Québec pavilions built for Expo 67, which gives it an architectural profile no purpose-built resort could imitate. Guests are on an island in the St Lawrence, a short drive from downtown but distinctly apart from it.

It is a hotel first: rooms, restaurants, meeting space and river views, with a gaming floor as one of the amenities on the site rather than the reason the building exists. The surrounding parkland and the Formula 1 circuit are part of the same island.

Fallsview Casino Resort

Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada

Built into the escarpment above the Horseshoe Falls, the resort's geography does most of the work — a large share of the rooms and the upper public floors look directly at the falls, which is the reason most guests choose it.

Alongside the accommodation there is a theatre that books touring acts, a spa, a range of restaurants and a gaming floor. The falls-side promenade is a few minutes' walk downhill.

River Rock Casino Resort

Richmond, British Columbia, Canada

River Rock stands on the Fraser River in Richmond, close enough to Vancouver International Airport that it functions comfortably as a first or last night in the region, with a marina attached and a SkyTrain station nearby.

The hotel side covers two room buildings, a spa, a show theatre and a set of restaurants that reflect Richmond's Asian dining scene; the gaming floor is one component of a larger riverside property.

Casino Rama Resort

Rama, Ontario, Canada

Owned by the Chippewas of Rama First Nation and set in cottage country near Orillia, roughly an hour and a half north of Toronto, the resort reads more like a lakes-region destination than an urban one.

It combines a hotel, a large entertainment venue that has hosted touring performers for decades, several restaurants and a gaming floor, with Lake Couchiching and the Trent–Severn Waterway close at hand.
